Naming districts the way seekers type them
Malaysian seekers type the names they hear from friends and agents, not the gazetteer. “Relau,” “Bayan Lepas,” and older estate nicknames collide inside one district filter.
Analytics clue
Look for high volume on free-text search that never resolves to a district ID, followed by exit. That trail often sits beside a tidy pie chart of “successful” district filters that only counts clean selections.
Remediation without theatre
Maintain a synonym table reviewed by agents who take calls. Re-run empty-result payloads after each update. You do not need a new branding campaign to fix a naming mismatch — you need the table and a release note.
Penang note
Tourist-facing names and local estate names diverge quickly along the island’s east coast. If your app serves both relocating expats and local upgraders, expect two vocabularies and measure both.
